BRIDGEPORT, CT — Girls flag football arrives in Bridgeport this summer with backing from the New York Giants and Bridgeport Public Schools.

The 2025 Girls Flag Football Jamboree will take place Saturday, June 7, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Seaside Park’s soccer fields.

Bridgeport becomes the first city in Connecticut to launch the NFL-supported program. The event is free for girls ages 13 to 18. Uniforms will be provided. Teams from across the region are invited to participate.

“We’re not just hosting a tournament. We’re setting a new standard,” said Paul Catuccio, athletic director for Bridgeport Public Schools. “With the support of one of the NFL’s most storied franchises, and the energy of our students behind us, June 8 will be a milestone for girls’ athletics in Bridgeport.”

The program is held in partnership with Northeast Flag Football. Organizers say the goal is to promote gender equity and expand athletic access for young women.

“This partnership with the New York Giants is a transformational moment for our students and our city,” said Dr. Royce Avery, interim superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools. “By bringing this nationally supported program to one of Bridgeport’s most iconic spaces, we’re creating new possibilities for our young women to lead, grow, and thrive—on and off the field.”

The Jamboree is part of a growing nationwide push by the NFL and its partners to elevate girls’ sports through structured, competitive flag football leagues.

For more information or to register a team, participants can email FmailNEFELCT@hotmail.com or contact Paul Catuccio directly at pcatuccio@bridgeportedu.net.
