STORRS, CT — The UConn Finance Society held its 9th Annual Finance Conference at Morgan Stanley’s global headquarters in Manhattan, marking the first time the student-led event convened in the core of America’s financial capital.

The conference brought together UConn students, alumni, and finance professionals for a full day of discussion on equity markets, mergers and acquisitions, and career-building in a competitive industry.

The event was hosted entirely by students, with support from UConn alumni now working across Wall Street.

Dan Toscano ’87 (BUS), Chair of the UConn Board of Trustees and managing director at Morgan Stanley, opened the event by recalling his own delayed entry into the finance sector following the 1987 crash. Toscano emphasized that persistence and a willingness to learn from every job helped shape his path to Wall Street.

Panels featured alumni experts across finance subsectors, including private equity, hedge funds, and credit risk. Equity panelist Sheldon Kasowitz ’83 (BUS), founder of Indus Capital Partners, shared insights from his experience in Asian markets and urged students to prioritize in-person work and international experience early in their careers.

The conference venue was secured by Christopher Walker ’19 (CLAS), a Morgan Stanley associate, and attended by over 30 alumni. Finance Society leadership said they hope to make the Manhattan location a permanent fixture for future events.
