MIDDLEBURY, CT — Quassy Amusement Park & Waterpark has christened its newest ride Crazy 8, a free-spinning family coaster built on a figure-eight track.

The name came from a public contest that pulled in nearly 400 entries. Cassie Shaw submitted the version that matched exactly, and she was declared the Grand Prize winner.

The track’s geometry offers a serpentine layout, while each ride vehicle rotates independently.

The continuous motion creates a shifting ride pattern that varies by weight and balance. This variability offers riders a ride that is never the same twice.

Guests of all ages can board, as the design accommodates family use without the need for extreme height or speed thresholds.

Quassy will hold a formal debut for Crazy 8 in June. Shaw and others who submitted similar names will attend the ceremonial kickoff.

The park opens its gates for the season on April 26. The ride will join a lineup that includes wooden roller coasters, kiddie rides, and water slides.

Also premiering this season is Aladdin Wave Swinger, a pendulum-style swing imported from the Netherlands. Its ornate panels and circular lift motion add to the eclectic mix of attractions already on site.
