NEW BRITAIN, CT — The beloved Race in the Park returned to New Britain this Saturday, drawing thousands to Walnut Hill Park for the 22nd annual event supporting breast cancer research. Organized by the Connecticut Breast Health Initiative (CT BHI), the race offered a 5K run, 4K and 1-mile walks, a Kids Fun Run, and a virtual 5K, reflecting a growing commitment to inclusive participation and community solidarity.

This year’s theme, “Hope in Action,” resonated across the park as runners and walkers donned pink in tribute to loved ones affected by breast cancer. The event was a heartfelt blend of celebration and remembrance, reinforcing a shared mission to fund research that could save lives.

“It’s inspiring to see our community come together year after year for such a meaningful cause,” said Joanne Bozadjian, Volunteer Co-Chair for the event. “Every step taken today brings us closer to a future without breast cancer.”

CT BHI underscores that 100% of Race in the Park proceeds stay within Connecticut, directly benefiting local research and education efforts. This local impact is a key part of what keeps participation strong and growing.

In addition to in-person events, the virtual race allowed participants to join remotely between May 9 and May 11. This hybrid format continues to expand the reach of the fundraiser, helping to draw attention and support far beyond New Britain.

“Being part of this race is more than just running; it’s about standing together against breast cancer,” said fellow Volunteer Co-Chair Sylvia Webb. “The energy here today is a testament to our collective strength and determination.”
