Kansas City, Missouri – June 29, 2024: In a heart-wrenching incident, a baby girl died after her mother mistakenly placed her in an oven instead of her crib for a nap. The tragic event occurred on Friday, June 28, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri.

Mariah Thomas, the mother of the deceased infant, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child following the incident. According to the Jackson County prosecuting attorney, Jean Peters Baker, authorities received a distress call on Friday afternoon regarding an infant who was not breathing. When first responders arrived, they discovered the baby had been burned and was declared dead at the scene.

A statement from the first responders detailed the horrifying mistake:
