The death of beloved actor Matthew Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the iconic TV show “Friends,” has taken a dramatic turn. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), in collaboration with multiple federal agencies, has intensified its investigation, potentially leading to criminal charges against several individuals.

Perry, aged 54, was found dead on October 28, 2023, in his jacuzzi at his Pacific Palisades home. The initial autopsy conducted on October 29, 2023, by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner indicated that Perry died from the acute effects of ketamine. This finding has raised significant concerns about the circumstances surrounding his death.

The investigation revealed that Perry had undergone ketamine infusion therapy for depression and anxiety approximately ten days before his death. However, the levels of ketamine found in his system during the autopsy, reported on December 15, 2023, were far too high to have resulted from this therapy alone. Ketamine’s half-life is only 3 to 4 hours, making it impossible for the infusion therapy to account for the levels detected at the time of his death.

The LAPD, alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, is now probing how Perry obtained such a high quantity of ketamine. The investigation is considering whether the ketamine was administered intentionally or accidentally, and if other individuals were involved in supplying or administering the drug.

A law enforcement source, speaking to Deadline, noted concerns about the significant amount of ketamine in Perry’s system. Authorities are particularly interested in understanding how Perry acquired the drug and whether any foul play was involved.

In addition to ketamine, contributing factors in Perry’s death included drowning, coronary artery disease, and the effects of buprenorphine, a medication used to treat opioid addiction. The combination of these factors has complicated the investigation and expanded the scope of potential criminal charges.

As the investigation progresses, authorities are considering charging multiple individuals connected to Perry’s death. This development underscores the seriousness of the case and the commitment of law enforcement to uncover the truth.

For fans of Matthew Perry, this news is both shocking and heartbreaking. The actor’s sudden death last year was a significant loss to the entertainment industry, and the ongoing investigation has only added to the tragedy.
