MERIDEN, Conn. — A young hound mix recently separated from her litter was found abandoned and severely underweight in the Lincoln Plaza area Sunday, Meriden Animal Control confirmed.
Teenagers spotted the dog, now named Petals, running loose near West Main Street and contacted authorities. “She is seriously emaciated and was pregnant not too long ago,” officials said.
Meriden Animal Control suspects her puppies were removed prematurely. “Her puppies are most likely newborn and were taken away from their mother extremely early,” they stated. Petals had no collar and is not microchipped.
“If her puppies are alive, they are much too young to be away from their mother,” animal control warned. Officials are urging anyone with information to call 203-235-4179 and leave a message. The search for the puppies and Petals’ former owners continues.
