NORTH HAVEN, CT — A 40-year-old man accused of stabbing his father to death and injuring his brother at a Pleasant Drive residence was arraigned Wednesday in New Haven Superior Court.

David Pagan was charged with murder and first-degree assault following the incident late Tuesday night. His bond was set at $2 million.

Police were dispatched to the home around 8:40 p.m. after receiving two 911 calls. One was placed by Pagan’s brother, who reported being stabbed and hiding in a locked shed.

The second call came from Pagan himself, who told dispatchers he was located on a nearby street.

When officers arrived, they found the brother with a stab wound to his wrist. He informed police that their father was still inside the house.

Responders located the 77-year-old man on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck, according to court documents. He was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries.

Police located Pagan on Manor Drive shortly afterward and took him into custody. Investigators recovered a folding knife from the grass, believed to be the weapon used in the attack.

While in custody, Pagan admitted to the stabbings. Officers said he stated, “Yes, I stabbed him,” and explained that he had “gone after his brother but his father got in the way.”

In court, Pagan was identified as unemployed and a former member of the Army National Guard. His defense attorney stated he served from 2003 to 2007, completed one deployment overseas, and received an honorable discharge.

The names of the father and brother have not yet been released by authorities.

Neighbors described the emergency response as chaotic, with multiple police units, K9 teams, and search lights combing the area.

Pagan is scheduled to return to court on May 7.
