Bridgeport, CT — A loose dog was struck by a vehicle on Route 8 northbound near Exit 2B on Monday after running across the highway, state police said.
According to the Connecticut State Police, troopers from Troop G responded to reports of the animal roaming near traffic and arrived to find it sprinting across lanes before the collision.
The dog, though hit, managed to escape off the roadway before officers tracked it down.
A trooper located the injured animal and transported it to Shelton Veterinary Center for emergency treatment. The dog had no microchip, making it difficult for authorities to trace its owner.
Today, officials confirmed the dog is expected to make a full recovery under veterinary supervision.
The police stated that if no owner steps forward, arrangements for the dog’s future care will be considered.
