STORRS, CT — UConn baseball extended its winning streak to six games Thursday night with a 5-3 comeback victory over Seton Hall at Elliot Ballpark.

Sophomore Tyler Minick sparked the Huskies’ offense with a pair of two-run home runs, marking his first career multi-homer performance.

Minick erased a 2-0 deficit in the fourth inning with his first long ball, then delivered the go-ahead blast in the sixth to give UConn (19-17, 6-4 BIG EAST) the lead for good.

The Huskies are now 5-0 this season with Minick starting at first base.

Grant MacArthur added a solo homer in the fifth, his second straight game with a home run, as the Huskies used the long ball to overcome early trouble on the mound.

UConn used a bullpen game to open the series.

Right-hander Jude Abbadessa made his second start of the season, pitching one inning and surrendering two runs while stranding the bases loaded.

Lefty Gabe Van Emon followed with two innings, working out of jams in both frames to hold Seton Hall (14-23, 2-5 BIG EAST) in check.

Ian Cooke took command from there, delivering 3.2 dominant innings of relief. He allowed just one unearned run and struck out eight to secure his first win of the year. Cooke now has 251 career strikeouts, moving him into fourth place on UConn’s all-time list.

Brady Afthim closed out the final two innings without allowing a run, fanning three to notch his seventh save of the season.

Game two of the BIG EAST series is scheduled for Friday, April 18, at 6:05 p.m.
