WOLCOTT, CT — A Wolcott police officer was rescued early Tuesday morning after their cruiser rolled into a pond and submerged, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 5:45 a.m. near Spindle Hill Road, as the officer was checking on a sports complex building.
According to police, the left front tire of the cruiser slipped off the driveway and into a nearby pond, which had separated from the pavement following several days of rain.
The officer attempted to reverse the vehicle but said it continued to slide deeper into the pond. As water began to fill the cruiser, the officer was unable to open the door due to water pressure.
The officer managed to escape through the cruiser’s window and climbed onto the roof of the vehicle, which eventually became fully submerged.
The Wolcott Fire Department responded and launched a lifeboat to rescue the officer. No injuries were reported.
Police did not release the officer’s name. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
