TORRINGTON, CT — Two newborn fawns were dramatically rescued off the side of Route 8 in Torrington on Saturday afternoon, drawing praise for the Torrington fawn rescue effort led by Connecticut State Police and local Good Samaritans. The fawns, estimated to be less than 24 hours old, were discovered near Exit 51, perilously close to highway traffic, according to authorities.

Connecticut State Police reported that Trooper Veras, with the help of concerned bystanders, secured the fawns and ensured their safe transfer to a local wildlife rehabilitation center. Despite a careful search of the area, no mother deer was found. “Troopers help protect our four-legged friends too!” the department shared on social media, highlighting the importance of the Torrington fawn rescue.

The fawns are now receiving specialized care and are expected to be released back into the wild once they are old enough. Environmental Conservation Police also assisted in the operation, underscoring the coordinated community response to wildlife emergencies.

Authorities are reminding residents that if they encounter distressed wildlife, they should immediately contact local police or environmental officials rather than attempt a rescue themselves.

This Torrington fawn rescue highlights how quick action by both officials and community members can make a critical difference in local wildlife conservation.
