Danbury, CT – As extreme winter temperatures grip Connecticut, the City of Danbury has activated its Cold Weather Protocol.

The city establishes warming centers for residents in need of shelter from the harsh conditions.

The protocol, which runs from Sunday, Feb. 16 through Saturday, Feb. 22, is part of a statewide initiative to provide safe, heated spaces for those vulnerable to freezing temperatures.

According to the city government, the War Memorial and Danbury Library have been designated as the city’s primary warming locations. Operating hours vary by day, with extended access at the War Memorial from early morning until late evening.

The Danbury Library will also be available on select days with adjusted hours to secure that residents have access to a heated refuge during the cold spell.

Beginning Monday, Feb.17, the War Memorial will extend operations from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., continuing through Friday, Feb. 21.

The Danbury Library will open for limited hours on Tuesday through Saturday, with closing times ranging from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

City officials are encouraging residents to take advantage of these facilities, especially those who may lack adequate heating at home.

Emergency services have also been mobilized to support individuals in urgent need of shelter.

Residents or those concerned for others can dial 2-1-1 for immediate assistance, with round-the-clock resources available for referrals to emergency housing and support services.

The City of Danbury continues to monitor weather conditions and may extend the warming center operations if necessary.
