MADISON, CT — Governor Ned Lamont has approved a $50,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the unsolved killing of Barbara Hamburg.
Hamburg was found beaten and stabbed to death outside her home on March 3, 2010. The case remains open after fifteen years.
“Madison police have devoted countless hours and resources to the investigation and continue to vigorously pursue any leads,” the State’s Attorney’s Office said.
Hamburg was a mother of two. She was found dead in the yard of her residence on Middle Beach Road.
Investigators said she died from blunt force trauma and stab wounds. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Weeks after the killing, police served a search warrant. Jeffrey Hamburg, her ex-husband, gave DNA and hair samples. He was never named a suspect, and no charges were filed.
“The public is advised not to underestimate the significance of what they may know and not to assume that law enforcement must already possess that information,” said State’s Attorney John Doyle. “Sometimes a small piece of information may be what investigators need to solve a case and achieve a successful prosecution.”
The reward was authorized by Governor Lamont and announced by the Division of Criminal Justice. Officials hope it will prompt new leads and public tips.
Anyone with information should contact the Madison Police Department. The case remains under investigation.
