Bridgeport, CT – Two Bridgeport police officers were honored for their swift response after catching three suspects in the act of breaking into motor vehicles, an arrest that later tied them to a fatal crash now under investigation.

Chief Porter and the department’s leadership recognized Officer Nieves and Officer Merced during a CompStat meeting, praising their work on the midnight burglary detail.

“Their dedication and proactive policing directly contributed to keeping our community safe,” officials stated.

The Bridgeport Police Department officers, assigned to overnight patrol, moved in as the suspects targeted multiple vehicles.

The swift arrests prevented further criminal activity. Authorities later determined the trio was connected to a vehicular fatality, though details on that case remain undisclosed.

Officials emphasized the impact of sharp police instincts and proactive enforcement in preventing crime.

The arrests, they said, demonstrated the far-reaching effects of vigilance on the streets. Detectives continue to investigate the crash, working to piece together key evidence.

“This recognition highlights the hard work and commitment of our officers who go above and beyond every day to protect and serve Bridgeport,” leadership stated.

The department continues urging residents to report suspicious activity and remain alert to crime patterns.

Officials noted that vehicle break-ins, often viewed as minor offenses, can sometimes expose deeper criminal ties.

“Outstanding job by Officers Nieves, Merced, and all of our officers at the Bridgeport Police Department!” police leadership declared, encouraging the community to recognize their service.
