NEW FAIRFIELD, CT — Authorities have arrested a New York man in connection with a fatal Candlewood Lake boating crash, marking a significant development in the months-long investigation.
Robert McDonald, 23, of Flushing, New York, faces charges following a boating accident that resulted in a fatality on Candlewood Lake. According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), McDonald was charged with reckless operation of a vessel and misconduct with a motor vehicle.
The fatal incident, which occurred last summer, prompted an extensive inquiry by environmental conservation officers. Officials said alcohol may have been a contributing factor, though further details remain sealed pending court proceedings.
McDonald is scheduled to appear in court on May 15. DEEP officials emphasized the importance of boating safety as the state prepares for an increase in lake activity during the warmer months.
Boating enthusiasts are reminded to operate their vessels responsibly and to always prioritize safety on Connecticut’s waterways. Further updates on the case will follow after McDonald’s court appearance.
