ANSONIA, CT — A chaotic street takeover early Saturday morning in Ansonia led to damage of a police cruiser as responding officers faced a hostile crowd.

Police were called to the intersection of Wakelee Avenue and Franklin Street around 1:30 a.m. Saturday following reports of fireworks and reckless driving. Upon arrival, officers encountered a large group of individuals engaging in a “street takeover,” characterized by vehicles performing dangerous stunts and spectators blocking traffic.

Amid the commotion, a police cruiser was targeted, with individuals jumping onto the vehicle and causing substantial damage. Objects were also thrown at officers, though no injuries were reported.

Authorities are actively investigating the incident and seeking public assistance to identify those responsible. They urge anyone with video footage or information to contact the Ansonia Police Department.

Street takeovers have increasingly become a public safety concern across Connecticut. Officials emphasize that such events endanger lives and will not be tolerated.
