ENFIELD, CT — More than 100 educators, parents, and community members rallied outside Enfield Town Hall on Monday evening, urging the Town Council to approve a proposed 5.57% increase to the Board of Education’s budget. The $4.3 million boost would help restore positions and programs lost to last year’s cuts, including the rehiring of 34 staff members and the reinstatement of middle school and freshman sports.
The proposed $81.7 million education budget is part of a broader $162 million town spending plan for the 2025 fiscal year, which would raise the overall tax rate by 2.37 mills. Despite the potential tax increase, residents and educators voiced strong support for the budget, citing the negative impact of last year’s budget cuts, which led to over 100 job losses, larger class sizes, and diminished services. The proposal includes rehiring 34 staff members and fully restoring middle school and freshman sports.
The Town Council is expected to vote on the budget in the coming weeks
