Wallingford, CT — A 25-year-old motorcyclist has died days after sustaining traumatic injuries in a crash on Durham Road, according to police.
Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Durham Road at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday following a report of a motorcycle incident.
Upon arrival, police said they located Evan Waycott of Wallingford, who had been ejected from his motorcycle. He was immediately transported to Yale New Haven Hospital.
Waycott succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, authorities confirmed.
According to the preliminary investigation, Waycott had been traveling westbound on Durham Road when he veered across the center line and collided with a catch basin grate.
The impact dislodged him from his vehicle. Police also noted that Waycott was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Investigators believe the absence of head protection may have contributed to the severity of his injuries. The crash site, located on a curved segment of Durham Road, contains several drainage features, including grates embedded in the roadway.
The Wallingford Police Department is urging any individuals who may have witnessed the crash to contact Officer Knowlton at (203) 294-2623.
As of press time, no additional contributing factors have been released.
