National Donut Day, celebrated annually on the first Friday of June, falls on June 7th this year. The day, originally established by the Salvation Army in 1938, honors the “Donut Lassies” who served donuts to soldiers during World War I and has since evolved into a beloved celebration with special deals and giveaways.

Krispy Kreme, a major player in this celebration, is offering customers a free donut of their choice with no purchase necessary. Additionally, a $2 Original Glazed dozen is available with the purchase of any dozen donuts. This offer is valid at participating Krispy Kreme locations across the U.S., both in-store and via drive-thru.

Dunkin’ is also joining the festivities by giving away a free classic donut with any beverage purchase. This promotion is available all day on June 7, 2024, at participating Dunkin’ locations.

Other notable offers include:

Shipley Do-Nuts: Free donuts to all customers.
Duck Donuts: Free cinnamon sugar donuts to all customers.
LaMar’s Donuts: Free Ray’s Original Glazed Donut at all locations.
National Donut Day not only provides a treat for the taste buds but also serves as a reminder of the day’s charitable origins. The Salvation Army continues to use the occasion to raise funds for those in need, maintaining the spirit of giving that the “Donut Lassies” embodied during the war.

Fun Facts and Statistics
Approximately 10 billion donuts are made in the U.S. each year.
The city of Boston has one donut shop for every 2,480 people.
Krispy Kreme operates in over 35 countries with more than 14,000 fresh points of access
