A New London officer of police, Julio Gil-Martinez, was arrested on January 9, 2025, for violating a protective order. The arrest has brought significant attention to the New London Police Department, as Officer Gil-Martinez faces serious charges including threatening, assault, strangulation, unlawful restraint, and interfering with an emergency call.

According to WFSB, Officer Gil-Martinez, 28, was taken into custody following an investigation into the alleged violations. The charges stem from a domestic incident that has raised concerns about the conduct of law enforcement officers in the community.

The New London Police Department has confirmed that Officer Gil-Martinez has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. This incident has sparked discussions about the need for stringent measures to ensure accountability within the police force.
