NORWALK, CT — A fire that tore through a three-story house on Lexington Avenue Tuesday afternoon forced 22 people out of their homes. No one was hurt.

The Norwalk Fire Department said it was called to the scene around 2:40 p.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire on the third floor.

People living on the second and third floors did not know there was a fire and had to be evacuated fast, according to fire officials.

Firefighters raised the response to a third alarm. They said this was because of problems with hydrants and the number of people inside.

The fire displaced 22 people. The Red Cross is helping them with temporary shelter and support.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal’s Office is looking into what caused the fire.

Officials have not said how much damage the building took or how long the investigation will take.
