Pro boxer Ryan Garcia’s career has taken a dramatic downturn following his expulsion from the World Boxing Council (WBC). This decision came after Garcia’s racist rant during a Twitter space, which included offensive remarks directed at African Americans, Jews, Muslims, and several other groups. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman announced on July 4, 2024, that Garcia would no longer be associated with the organization, emphasizing the WBC’s zero-tolerance policy for discrimination.

This incident adds to Garcia’s mounting troubles. Recently, he was suspended from boxing for a year by the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) after testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug Ostarine. This suspension also led to his win against Devin Haney being declared a no-contest.

Garcia’s problematic behavior was highlighted on July 2, 2024, when he caused over $15,000 in damages at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills, resulting in his arrest for felony vandalism. His attorney stated that Garcia was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and may face charges of public intoxication.

The positive tests for Ostarine were conducted on April 19 and 20, 2024, just before and on the day of his fight with Devin Haney. Garcia’s team argued that the positive results were due to contaminated supplements, but the WBC’s strict protocols led to a one-year suspension and a $1.1 million fine. Despite Garcia submitting a negative hair follicle test, which he claimed proved his innocence, the ruling stood.

Garcia issued an apology following his expulsion, stating…

“A lot of things are happening in my life man. I feel falsely accused of doing steroids. They banned me from a sport that I love so much….”

Ryan Garcia profound apology

“I was trolling I want all the killing to stop. I love everyone sorry if I offended you.”

Ryan Garcia apologizes to everyone after posting questionable tweets.

However, this did little to mitigate the backlash from his offensive comments.

The WBC’s decision to expel Garcia marks a significant moment in boxing, as the organization reinforces its commitment to maintaining the sport’s integrity and rejecting any form of discrimination. Garcia’s expulsion and suspension have raised serious doubts about his future in the sport.

The fallout from these events is a stark contrast to Garcia’s previous career highlights, including his numerous victories and his role in promoting sports brands. His recent actions, however, have overshadowed these achievements and cast a shadow over his once-promising career.
