UNCASVILLE, CT — Fans packed the stands at Mohegan Sun Arena Tuesday night for Paige Bueckers’ highly anticipated return to Connecticut, as the former UConn superstar led the Dallas Wings to a decisive 109–87 victory over the Connecticut Sun. Bueckers, now a WNBA rookie, didn’t disappoint the roaring sellout crowd, dropping a season-high 21 points in her homecoming performance.
Bueckers, who boasted a flawless 15–0 collegiate record at Mohegan Sun, was met with thunderous applause as she took the floor. Fans in both UConn and Dallas Wings No. 5 jerseys flooded the arena, some traveling from across the Northeast to witness the generational talent back on Connecticut hardwood.
Her stats were as impressive as her reception — shooting 8-for-10 from the field, 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, and adding five rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a block. Bueckers’ mid-range game and sharp playmaking were on full display, reminding fans why she remains one of Connecticut’s most beloved athletes.
Former Sun players DiJonai Carrington and Ty Harris also made their returns in Wings jerseys, with Carrington contributing 16 points. Despite the Sun’s effort, led by Tina Charles’ 27-point night, they fell to 0–5 on the season.
As the Wings look ahead to a matchup with the Chicago Sky and the Sun head on the road against the Indiana Fever, Bueckers’ Connecticut return underscored her enduring legacy. For Connecticut fans, it wasn’t just about the game — it was about welcoming home one of their own.
