On Sunday, a devastating collision between a Ford Focus car and a motorcycle on the A61 Wakefield Road in West Yorkshire resulted in the deaths of six people, including two children. The tragic incident occurred at approximately 15:55 BST between Wakefield and Barnsley. The victims, who were all pronounced dead at the scene, included a man, a woman, and two girls travelling in the car, as well as a man and a woman on the motorcycle.

The crash site, located between Staincross and Newmillerdam, led to the immediate closure of the road between Shaw Lane and Warren Lane. West Yorkshire Police have been investigating the scene, which remained cordoned off into Monday morning, as officers continue to gather evidence and appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Security Minister and MP for Barnsley North, Dan Jarvis, expressed his condolences on social media platform X, describing the news as “devastating.” He extended heartfelt sympathies to the families and friends of the deceased.

“This is an absolutely tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of six lives. Our thoughts go out to the families of those who have died, and we are working with them to provide support at this time.”

Superintendent Alan Travis of West Yorkshire Police

The community has begun to leave flowers near the site of the accident, showing their respect and sorrow for the victims. Passers-by have expressed their shock and sadness over the tragic loss of life in such a harrowing incident.

The police have urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information to contact them to aid in their investigation. They continue to work tirelessly to piece together the events that led to this horrific accident.
