Torrington, CT – A Torrington woman was arrested Monday, March 3, after state troopers found her unconscious behind the wheel of a running car, stopped in a live traffic lane on Route 8.

Shortly after 7 p.m., Connecticut State Police from Troop B – North Canaan responded to reports of a stationary vehicle blocking the exit 50 off-ramp from Route 8 southbound.

Arriving troopers discovered a gray Toyota Yaris idling in the travel lane, its driver slumped motionless over the steering wheel, the car still in drive.

Troopers knocked on the window, eventually rousing the driver, later identified as Rebecca Johnson, 39, of Torrington.

Officers immediately suspected impairment—her sluggish movements and glassy eyes raising red flags. They administered a field sobriety test, which she failed.

Johnson was placed under arrest, and a subsequent search of her vehicle turned up eight small bags of suspected narcotics stashed beneath the passenger seat.

She was transported to Troop B for processing and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, improper parking on a highway, and possession of a controlled substance.

Released on a $2,500 bond, Johnson is scheduled to appear in Torrington Superior Court on March 17.

No injuries or additional incidents were reported at the scene.
