MADISON, CT — A former Madison School worker has been arrested after allegedly engaging in inappropriate electronic communications with multiple students, prompting serious concerns within the school community.

According to Madison police, 37-year-old Shalena Hastings was arrested on March 28 and charged with a series of offenses, including the use of a computer to entice a minor for sexual activity, misrepresentation of age to entice a minor, risk of injury to a minor, and criminal impersonation.

Authorities launched an investigation after receiving reports of concerning communications between Hastings and students. Working closely with school officials, Madison police determined that Hastings had used electronic means to contact students inappropriately. As a result, she was placed on administrative leave and later dismissed from her position.

Initially held on a $150,000 bond, Hastings was released on reduced bonds totaling $10,000 and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on April 9.

“Ensuring the safety of our students is our highest priority. We take any threats to that safety very seriously and respond swiftly.”

Superintendent Craig Cooke responded to the arrest, stating.

The district also notified the Connecticut Department of Children and Families regarding the allegations.

The Madison Police Department is urging anyone with information related to the case to contact them at 203-245-6500, underscoring the community’s role in protecting student safety.

Conclusion: As the investigation continues, school officials and law enforcement are reinforcing their commitment to a safe learning environment. Hastings’ next court appearance will be closely watched by parents and educators throughout the district.
