BROOKLYN, Conn. — The Brooklyn Public Schools district has been awarded a $26,800 Agricultural Enhancement Grant from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture to bolster its year-round agricultural education efforts.

The funding will support the installation of electric, plumbing, and climate-control systems in the district’s greenhouse. The upgrades aim to provide students with the tools to cultivate crops and develop agricultural competencies throughout the calendar year.

The grant was awarded under the Agricultural Enhancement Program, which is supported by Public Act 05-228.

The legislation, titled An Act Concerning Farmland Preservation, Affordable Housing, and Historic Preservation, authorizes the use of state funds for projects that sustain agricultural education and land use.

According to state officials, the improvements to the Brooklyn school greenhouse will create a controlled environment suitable for continuous learning and plant growth, even during winter months.

The infrastructure investment is expected to expand the district’s ability to provide hands-on experiences in horticulture, sustainability, and food production.

More information on eligibility and other awarded projects is available through the Department of Agriculture’s website at www.CTGrown.gov/grants.
