FAIRFIELD, CT — A group of juveniles wielding flatulence spray sparked scenes of alarm Friday night at the McKinley Carnival at Jennings Beach, Fairfield police said.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded near the carnival exit where the group deployed “flatulence spray,” also known as fart spray, multiple times.

Early on, small clusters of carnival-goers began to scream and flee the area. As the evening wore on, the commotion grew, setting off what police called a “ripple effect” as larger groups bolted without knowing the source of the disturbance.

“We want to assure everyone that despite rumors circulating online, there were no weapons, no physical altercations, and no injuries reported at any time,” Fairfield police said in a statement.

Officers were already stationed at the carnival, maintaining an annual security presence, police said. Their on-site monitoring allowed immediate evaluation of the unfolding confusion.

Police confirmed that the chaos was not driven by violence or criminal threat but instead by repeated use of the odorous spray.

According to the police department, the prank led to widespread bewilderment among attendees, with each round of spraying intensifying the crowd’s reactions.

Despite the disruption, the McKinley Carnival remained open through the weekend as originally scheduled. Fairfield police said they continued to monitor the event to ensure public safety.
