The UConn men’s basketball team suffered a costly overtime loss on Saturday, Feb. 15, blowing a seven-point lead in the final two minutes before falling 79-77 to Seton Hall.

The defending national champions have now dropped their eighth game of the season, raising concerns about their performance in high-pressure moments as the Big East tournament approaches.

The Huskies (17-8) appeared to be in control after rallying from an early second-half deficit, leading 69-62 with 1:54 left in regulation.

However, defensive lapses, poor shot selection, and untimely turnovers allowed Seton Hall (7-18) to storm back with a 10-3 run, forcing overtime.

UConn struggled in the extra period, and a late layup from Scotty Middleton sealed the Pirates’ upset victory.

The latest loss shows a troubling trend for UConn, which has struggled to close out games in recent weeks.

Late-game execution has been inconsistent, with repeated breakdowns in key moments costing the Huskies valuable wins.

Dan Hurley addresses UConn’s late-game struggles

Head coach Dan Hurley is currently under scrutiny this season for his fiery coaching style and sideline disputes with officials.

The coach acknowledged that the team’s lack of execution late in games has become a major issue.

Even though the UConn has displayed dominance at times, their inability to finish strong in tight contests is now a growing concern.

The Huskies must regroup quickly as they enter a critical stretch in the Big East basketball schedule.

March Madness is approaching and their ability to correct these late-game mistakes will be crucial.

UConn vs. Villanova

UConn will look to bounce back at home on Tuesday, Feb. 18 against Villanova in a key Big East conference showdown at the XL Center in Hartford.

The game is set to tip off at 6:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

As the Huskies fight for NCAA Tournament seeding, every game moving forward will be critical.
