Hartford, CT – Walgreens will close two of its Connecticut locations next month, citing increased financial pressures related to regulatory changes and reimbursement challenges.
The pharmacy chain confirmed that its store at 161 Washington St. in Hartford will close on Tuesday, March 18, followed by the 435 Whalley Ave. location in New Haven on Thursday, March 20.
The company attributed the decision to rising operational costs, including expenses for rent, staffing, and supplies.
The closures are part of Walgreens’ ongoing move to evaluate store performance and streamline operations in response to shifting economic conditions.
According to Walgreens, it works to maintain service in the communities it serves but, in some cases, closing underperforming stores becomes necessary.
Employees affected by the closures are expected to be reassigned to other locations, and Walgreens said it will coordinate with local stakeholders to minimize disruptions for customers.
Walgreens, which has closed several stores nationwide in recent months, continues to adjust its footprint as part of a larger corporate strategy to manage costs and adapt to changing market demands.
