Bridgeport, CT –  The City of Bridgeport’s Office of Planning and Economic Development (OPED) and the Bridgeport Economic Development Corporation (BEDCO) are intensifying efforts to transform public spaces through art, calling on local artists to contribute to an expanding citywide initiative.

Since its inception in 2022, the Public Art and Placemaking program has facilitated over 30 projects across the city.

The first two years, spearheaded by OPED’s Lauren Coakley Vincent in collaboration with the Downtown Special Services District (DSSD), focused on Downtown Bridgeport under the “Colorful Bridgeport” program.

In 2023, the initiative broadened its scope under the leadership of BEDCO President Ed Lavernoich and completed ten new murals across neighborhoods from the East End to Black Rock.

This year, OPED and BEDCO aim to further amplify their impact, integrating public input and expanding opportunities for artists.

Officials are actively engaging with Neighborhood Revitalization Zones (NRZs) to pinpoint ideal locations for new murals and installations. Community members are encouraged to submit suggestions via an interactive map.

As part of the expansion, OPED has opened its 2025 Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI).

They are inviting artists to submit proposals for new installations. Submissions will be accepted until March 17, 2025.

The city is urging artists, muralists, and creatives from all backgrounds to apply.

“We’re calling on artists to bring their creativity, passion, and vision to Bridgeport,” OPED said in a statement. “This is an opportunity to shape the aesthetic of our neighborhoods and inspire the community through art.”

Interested artists can apply through the official submission portal here.
