Meriden, CT – After weeks of intensive care, Coco, the injured dog who survived a car crash on Route 91, is leaving Meriden for continued rehabilitation in New York.
Fur Mom Mari is still recovering from injuries sustained in the accident and remains unable to care for her beloved pet at this time.
Coco will travel with Mari’s close friend, Katherine, to New York, where she will receive additional medical treatment, including a new cast, bandage changes, and rehabilitation at a veterinary clinic in the state.
The road to recovery is ongoing, but experts remain optimistic about her progress.
Veterinary staff at the Meriden hospital, who have cared for Coco since the accident, hosted a small farewell gathering for her before her departure.
Employees signed Coco’s cast as a gesture of support, and veterinary technician Stephanie, who developed a deep bond with Coco during her stay, received extra hugs from the pup.
Meriden Animal Control officers Sarah and Bryan attended the send-off, along with Coco’s grandmother and her advocate, Carol from Connecticut Dog Gone Recovery Volunteers (CTDGRV).
A group FaceTime call connected Mari and Priscilla, a coordinator in Coco’s recovery efforts, so they could share in the moment.

The accident that changed their lives occurred in January when Mari was driving with Coco and another dog, Salsa the Black Labrador, on Route 91 in Meriden.
The crash left both Mari and Coco injured, while Salsa fled the scene. Animal control officers and CTDGRV located Salsa days later and reunited her with Mari’s mother.

Mari, who spent weeks in the hospital, continues her own long road to recovery.
Expected to undergo a year of rehabilitation and physical therapy, she is recuperating at her mother’s home. Despite her challenges, she finds solace in having Salsa back by her side.
Coco’s transfer to New York marks another chapter in her recovery, and her supporters remain dedicated to seeing her through the final steps of healing.
The community’s outpouring of donations and support has made her medical treatment possible, and updates will continue as she progresses.
For now, both Mari and Coco are focused on getting stronger—with the hope that one day soon, they will be reunited for good.
