Charter Oak Closes Three Branches After Mystic Bank Robbery

Charter Oak Federal Credit Union shuts down three branches after an armed robbery at Citizens Bank in Mystic. Drive-ups remain open.

MYSTIC, CT— Following an armed robbery at Citizens Bank in Mystic earlier today, Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has closed three of its eastern Connecticut branches for the remainder of the day as a precautionary measure.

“Due to an armed robbery at Citizens Bank in Mystic today, the following branches will be closed for the remainder of the day for the safety of our employees and our members,” Charter Oak announced.

The impacted locations include:

  • Chicago Avenue Branch at 32 Chicago Avenue, Groton
  • Mystic Branch at 4 Hendel Drive, Mystic
  • Pawcatuck Branch at 20 Liberty Street, Pawcatuck

Although lobbies are closed, the credit union confirmed that drive-up services remain operational.

“Drive-ups will remain open,” the notice stated.

Charter Oak emphasized its commitment to safety and apologized for the disruption. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Details on the robbery at Citizens Bank have not yet been released by authorities, and it is not clear whether any injuries occurred. Local law enforcement is currently investigating the incident.

Customers are encouraged to use online banking or visit unaffected locations. Charter Oak has not indicated when the closed branches will resume normal operations.
