STORRS, CT — Ten Connecticut high schools reported the highest percentage increases in enrollment for the University of Connecticut’s Early College Experience (ECE) program from 2023 to 2024.

The figures show sharp growth in dual-enrollment access across districts, with Classical Magnet School topping the list at a 560% increase.

The UConn ECE program allows high school students to earn college credit while still in high school. Enrollment increases reflect expanded participation and improved outreach efforts by schools.

Grove School in Madison ranked second with a 500% increase. Pomperaug Regional High School followed with a 268% gain. Watertown High School posted a 214% rise, and Wilby High School in Waterbury saw a 180% increase.

Shepaug Valley School and Newtown High School both more than doubled their enrollment, with increases of 123% and 122% respectively.

Amity Regional High School recorded a 116.95% jump, closely followed by Wheeler High School with 116.67%, and Fairfield Ludlowe High School with 115.79%.

“Congratulations to the top 10 high schools with the highest percent increase in UConn ECE enrollment from 2023 to 2024,” the program stated. “These schools are expanding access to college-level learning and helping more students get a head start on their academic journey.”

The data reflects a trend across Connecticut as schools strengthen college-preparatory pathways.

Each of the ten schools increased student opportunities to engage in UConn coursework, helping them earn credits transferable to colleges nationwide.
