Connecticut State Police mourn loss of K-9 Chase

The Connecticut State Police Troop L mourns the loss of K-9 Chase, a 7-year-old German Shepherd, who passed away due to medical complications.

Litchfield, CT – The Connecticut State Police Troop L announced on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the sudden passing of patrol K-9 Chase, a 7-year-old German Shepherd, due to medical complications.

“K9 Chase was a 7-year-old German Shepherd, assigned to handler TFC Kenney #628,” Troop L stated on their social media page. “Together, K9 Chase and TFC Kenney formed an exceptional K9 team.”

According to the state police, K-9 Chase passed away on Sunday, Feb. 16.

The police dog created an impact in law enforcement operations across Connecticut. He was instrumental in locating missing persons, tracking wanted suspects, and assisting officers in criminal apprehensions.

“Throughout his service to Troop L and the State of Connecticut, K9 Chase located numerous missing people and wanted suspects, as well as assisted in the apprehension of criminals,” the department said.

K-9 Chase and TFC Kenney were both graduates of the Connecticut State Police 194th Patrol K9 class and the 230th Search and Rescue / Human Remains Detection class.

The police dogs shared their skills and expertise in specialized training in various law enforcement operations.

The Connecticut State Police shared K-9 Chase’s contributions and the lasting impact of his service.

“Troop L and the Connecticut State Police will be forever grateful for K9 Chase’s superior service to our state,” the statement read.

Chase’s passing is a significant loss for Troop L, which recognized his dedication to public safety, the state police stated.

“Rest easy, Chase.”
