In a much-anticipated move, Disney has officially greenlit “Freaky Friday 2,” a sequel to the beloved 2003 comedy. Fans can rejoice as Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are set to reprise their roles as Anna and Tess Coleman. The film is currently in production, with a theatrical release planned for 2025.

The confirmation of “Freaky Friday 2” came through various interviews and official statements. Lindsay Lohan first hinted at the sequel during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live in March 2024. She expressed her excitement about working with Jamie Lee Curtis again, a sentiment echoed by Curtis in multiple interviews over the past year. Filming began in June 2024, with Disney sharing behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram to mark the occasion.

While exact plot details are under wraps, some intriguing hints have emerged. The sequel is expected to involve another body-swap scenario, but with a twist. Reports suggest that Anna Coleman, now an adult with a teenage daughter, will find herself switching bodies with her own child, adding a fresh layer of comedy and heart to the narrative.

Returning cast members include Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Mark Harmon, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. New additions to the cast are Manny Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, bringing new dynamics and conflicts to the story.

Nisha Ganatra, known for her work on “Late Night” and “The High Note,” will direct the sequel. Her varied career in both television and film is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the “Freaky Friday” franchise.

Both Lohan and Curtis have expressed their enthusiasm for the project. Lohan mentioned that she and Curtis have remained in close contact over the years, which has only fueled their excitement for this reunion. Curtis, now 65, has continued to be a prominent figure in Hollywood, recently winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in “Everything Everywhere All At Once”.

With production in full swing, fans eagerly await more details about “Freaky Friday 2.” The sequel promises to capture the charm and humor of the original while introducing new elements to appeal to a modern audience. As filming progresses, more updates are expected, including a confirmed release date and additional plot details.

For now, fans can relish the fact that one of Disney’s classic comedies is making a comeback, bringing with it a mix of nostalgia and new adventures.
