EAST HAVEN, Conn. — A 38-year-old driver has been charged in connection with a February crash involving an East Haven firetruck, police said Tuesday.
The incident occurred on February 11 as firefighters were responding to a fire. According to East Haven police, the firetruck was traveling northbound on Hemmingway Avenue with its lights and sirens activated when a Scion TC turned directly in front of it.
The collision caused “significant damage,” authorities said, though no injuries were reported among the firefighters.
The driver of the Scion fled the scene immediately after the crash. Officers later located the vehicle and secured an arrest warrant.
The suspect turned himself in on Tuesday and is facing a charge of evading responsibility resulting in property damage. He was released on a promise to appear in court on April 3.
Police credited local residents for helping to locate the vehicle. “Thank you to our residents who quickly reached out with tips—we appreciate your help,” the department stated in an earlier update.
The investigation remains active.
