GOSHEN, CT – A Goshen man arrested on multiple animal cruelty charges was found to have a deceased dog and two malnourished pets in his residence, according to state police.

Tyler Grimes, 40, was taken into custody following an investigation that began on August 19, when a state trooper and a Goshen Animal Control officer responded to his home. Upon arrival, they found a dog in an advanced state of decomposition, along with a severely malnourished cat and another underweight dog.

Authorities said the conditions in Grimes’ home were dire, with clear signs of neglect. The surviving pets were immediately taken into the care of animal control for treatment and rehabilitation.

Grimes was apprehended during a traffic stop in Torrington after police identified an outstanding warrant related to the animal cruelty case. He was charged with three counts of animal cruelty and held on a $75,000 bond. He was scheduled for arraignment at the Superior Court in Torrington.

Animal control officials expressed their concerns over the case, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in reporting potential animal abuse.

“We urge residents to report any suspected neglect or mistreatment of animals. Timely intervention can save lives and prevent further suffering.”

“said an official from Goshen Animal Control.

This incident comes amid heightened awareness of animal cruelty cases in Connecticut. In a similar case last week, a Westbrook man was charged with animal cruelty after allegedly shooting his dog as a means of euthanasia.

Authorities remind residents to report any concerns about animal welfare to local law enforcement or animal control agencies. Reports can be made anonymously.
