HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden resident wins a life-changing windfall after winning the celebratory $250,000 top prize from the Connecticut Lottery’s popular Cashword game this week.
The Connecticut Lottery announced Monday that Jason G., of Hamden, claimed the top prize from the $10 Cashword 27 scratch ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at the Stop & Shop located at 2335 Dixwell Avenue in Hamden.
Jason G. chose to remain partially anonymous, sharing only his first name and town of residence. According to lottery officials, he said he plays Cashword regularly and knew instantly he had a winning ticket when he revealed all the required words on the grid.
“I double-checked it three times just to be sure,” Jason told lottery staff at headquarters in Rocky Hill. “It still doesn’t feel real.”
The Connecticut Lottery has emphasized responsible play while highlighting recent winners across the state. The $250,000 Cashword prize is one of several top-tier awards available in the scratch ticket series. Winners have the option of receiving their prize as a lump sum after taxes or via structured payments.
The retailer who sold the winning ticket will also receive a bonus commission.
Jason G.’s big win marks another lucky moment for Connecticut Lottery players. As scratch ticket games continue to grow in popularity, lottery officials remind players to check their tickets carefully—and always play responsibly.
