Hartford, CT – Hartford firefighters battled an intense blaze evening of Thursday, Feb. 20, after flames erupted inside a three-car garage at 70 Harbison Avenue, engulfing multiple vehicles and sending thick smoke into the night air.

According to the City of Hartford Fire Department, crews worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the structure and successfully containing the flames before they could threaten nearby properties.

Firefighters arrived to find the garage fully involved, with flames consuming large portions of the structure.

Officials confirmed that inside, five vehicles were trapped as the fire rapidly intensified. Acting swiftly, crews were able to roll two of the vehicles to safety before they sustained damage, while the remaining three were left inside as the fire continued to rage.

Emergency responders mounted an aggressive attack, working to suppress the flames and prevent further destruction.

After a prolonged battle, firefighters successfully knocked down the fire and brought it under control.

“The fire was knocked down, extinguished, and is now under control,” the department said in a statement. “There was no extension to nearby structures, and, at this time, no injuries have been reported among civilians or firefighters.”

Despite the size of the fire and the potential for rapid spread, the swift response by first responders ensured that the flames did not extend beyond the garage.

The fire department said that firefighters remained on scene for an extended period and conducted overhaul operations to eliminate hot spots and ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

Authorities have not yet determined what sparked the blaze, and an investigation is underway to assess the cause.

The officials have not released details regarding the extent of the damage to the garage or the three vehicles left inside.

More information is expected as investigators continue their work at the scene.
