Milford, CT — The long-delayed trial of Jose Morales, charged with the 2019 murder of Christine Holloway, opened Monday at Milford Superior Court, more than five years after her death shook the Ansonia community and gained national attention.

Morales, 48, is charged with murder and tampering with evidence in connection to the killing of 43-year-old Holloway.

The victim was found dead after police conducted a welfare check at her Ansonia residence. Her daughter, Vanessa Morales, who was a toddler at the time, was reported missing during the same period and has not been found.

The trial is expected to span approximately one month.

According to court filings, Holloway was the mother of Morales’ child. The two were not living together at the time of her death. Authorities allege that Morales murdered Holloway and then attempted to conceal or alter evidence. The charges stem from forensic work and investigative leads developed over several months following the initial discovery.

The child’s disappearance was reported concurrently with the homicide, triggering a widespread search across Connecticut and beyond. Despite extensive law enforcement and public efforts, Vanessa Morales remains missing. No additional charges have been filed related to her disappearance.

The court proceedings are drawing attention due to the gravity and visibility of the case. Holloway’s killing and her daughter’s unresolved status continue to resonate in the Ansonia community, where vigils and awareness events have been held over the years.

Morales remains in custody as the trial moves forward.
