New Haven Ring Camera Registration Program Launches

NEW HAVEN, CT — In a push to bolster community safety, the City of New Haven has launched a New Haven Ring camera registration initiative, inviting residents to voluntarily register their home surveillance cameras with the New Haven Police Department (NHPD). The goal: streamline access to potential video evidence and enhance the city’s ability to solve crimes quickly.

How the New Haven Ring Camera Registration Works

The New Haven Ring camera registration program enables residents to submit basic information about their home surveillance systems through a secure city portal. Registration is free, voluntary, and does not provide police with live access to any camera. Instead, it simply lets officers know where cameras are located and whom to contact if nearby footage is needed during an investigation.

All data collected remains confidential and is only accessible by authorized NHPD personnel.

Community Policing Through Technology

By mapping the locations of Ring and other home cameras across New Haven, police hope to build a network of willing participants who can contribute to neighborhood safety. Officials say the registry will help speed up investigations, especially in cases of theft, vandalism, or violent crime where surveillance footage can be pivotal.

This effort is part of a larger city strategy to integrate smart technology in public safety. New Haven has also proposed installing red light and speed enforcement cameras at busy intersections, pending state approval.

How to Register

Residents can enroll in the New Haven Ring camera registration program by visiting: connectnewhaven.org/camera-registration. The process takes less than a minute and strengthens collaborative policing efforts across neighborhoods.
