In a landmark collaboration announced on June 11, 2024, Oracle and Google Cloud have unveiled a strategic partnership to launch Oracle Database@Google Cloud, a new offering that provides customers with direct access to Oracle database services running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) within Google Cloud datacenters. This initiative aims to simplify cloud migration, enable multi-cloud deployment, and enhance the performance and management of IT environments.

  1. Direct Access to Oracle Database Services: The new service will allow enterprises to utilize Oracle Exadata Database Service and Oracle Autonomous Database Service directly on Google Cloud. This includes high performance and feature parity with OCI, enabling seamless cloud migration and modernization efforts.
  2. Multi-Cloud Capabilities: Customers will benefit from low-latency, high-throughput private interconnects between Google Cloud and Oracle Cloud, with no cross-cloud data transfer charges. This setup is designed to enhance multi-cloud deployments by providing a direct connection between the two platforms, facilitating better performance and cost-efficiency.
  3. Integration with Google Cloud AI: Users can integrate their Oracle data with Google Cloud’s AI services, including data analytics, Vertex AI, and Gemini foundation models. This integration will enhance the capabilities of AI applications, providing valuable insights and improving operational efficiencies.
  4. Joint Enterprise-Level Support: Both companies will offer unified support, ensuring comprehensive assistance for enterprise customers. This includes a simplified purchasing experience via Google Cloud Marketplace, leveraging existing Oracle licenses and discount programs.

The Oracle Interconnect for Google Cloud will initially be available in 11 global regions, including:

  • US East (Ashburn)
  • US West (Salt Lake City)
  • UK South (London)
  • Germany Central (Frankfurt)
  • Australia East (Sydney)
  • Australia South East (Melbourne)
  • Brazil East (São Paulo)
  • Canada South East (Montreal)
  • India West (Mumbai)
  • Japan East (Tokyo)
  • Spain Central (Madrid)

These regions will soon support onboarding customers, with plans to expand to additional regions later this year.

Larry Ellison, Oracle Chairman and CTO, highlighted the demand for multi-cloud flexibility, stating, “Customers want the flexibility to use multiple clouds. By seamlessly connecting Google Cloud services with the latest Oracle Database technology, customers will benefit from the best possible database and network performance.”

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet, added, “This partnership will help our joint enterprise customers use Oracle database and applications in concert with Google Cloud’s innovative platform and AI capabilities.”

This strategic partnership between Oracle and Google Cloud represents a significant advancement in cloud computing, providing enhanced performance, flexibility, and cost-efficiency for enterprise customers globally. The collaboration aims to accelerate cloud migration and modernize IT environments, combining the strengths of both Oracle and Google Cloud to deliver unparalleled service and support.
