Authorities said troopers were dispatched at 8:42 a.m. after receiving reports of an aggressive driver displaying a gun.

The suspect’s vehicle was later discovered abandoned. This triggers the deployment of police K-9 units and a widespread search in the Southington area.

As a precaution, Oshana Elementary, Strong Elementary, and Kennedy Middle School were placed in secure mode while police investigated. School officials later confirmed that classes resumed without further disruption.

The Connecticut State Police have not disclosed a suspect description or a potential motive.

Up to date, investigators are still working to determine the circumstances leading up to the confrontation.

Drivers on I-84 East and in surrounding areas should anticipate potential delays due to the ongoing police presence.

The Connecticut authorities urge anyone with information about the suspect to contact state police immediately.
