TRUMBULL, CT — A commercial van crash on Route 15 in the early hours of May 30 led to a hazardous materials response after several pool chemicals spilled at the scene, officials confirmed Friday.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., Long Hill Volunteer Fire Co. #1 and Trumbull EMS were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on Route 15 northbound near Exit 49N.
Upon arrival, first responders found a commercial van from a pool service company had collided with a tree. The driver, who had exited the vehicle, was treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The impact of the crash caused a spill of multiple pool chemicals stored in the van.
Fire officials immediately requested assistance from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Hazardous Materials Unit.
Working alongside DEEP personnel, Long Hill Fire Department crews secured the area and monitored for further risk.
A contracted cleanup team was called in to safely package and remove the spilled materials.
Multiple agencies were on the scene for over four hours, including Trumbull EMS, CT State Police, and Trumbull Police Department. No public evacuations were necessary, and the roadway was safely reopened after cleanup efforts were completed.
