Southington, CT — A Connecticut woman was arrested early Saturday morning after a state trooper clocked her BMW at 119 mph on Interstate 84 and observed clear signs of impairment, authorities said.

At approximately 1:33 a.m., a trooper from Troop H-Hartford was patrolling I-84 westbound when a BMW 430i sped past in the right lane.

The driver then cut sharply across all three lanes, passing other vehicles and accelerating aggressively when the road was clear, police said.

The trooper initiated a traffic stop near Exit 31.

The driver, identified as Amanda Offerdahl, 27, of Cheshire, pulled over and admitted she had been drinking at a bar before driving home.

When asked why she was speeding, Offerdahl told the trooper she was “just having fun,” adding that she “could not afford to be on a racetrack and wanted to see what her car could do,” according to police.

The trooper detected the odor of alcohol and noted that Offerdahl had bloodshot eyes. She agreed to perform Standardized Field Sobriety Testing but failed.

Offerdahl was arrested without incident and transported to Troop H, where she was charged with reckless driving, operating under the influence, and failure to maintain proper lane control.

She was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Britain Superior Court on April 7.
