EAST HARTFORD, CT — A Vernon man is facing numerous charges after leading Connecticut State Police on a pursuit early Sunday that stretched from East Hartford to Rocky Hill.
According to state police, a trooper spotted an Acura MDX swerving on Route 2 East in East Hartford shortly before 1 a.m.
The trooper activated emergency lights and sirens, but police said the driver initially appeared to pull over before suddenly speeding off.
The pursuit continued off Route 2, through a red light, and eventually onto Interstate 91 South in Rocky Hill.
Two additional troopers joined the chase and attempted to box in the Acura. The suspect vehicle collided with a police SUV, spun across the highway, and struck a median guardrail.
The driver then surrendered. Troopers said he showed clear signs of impairment.
The man was charged with reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit, illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, assault on public safety personnel, and operating a motor vehicle without a license, among other offenses.
He was held on a $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
