Storrs, CT — UConn sophomore Josh Mooney has been named the BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday, following a standout performance at the prestigious 97th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Mooney, a Stonington, Connecticut native, earned a fifth-place finish in the decathlon, compiling 7,401 total points across the grueling 10-event competition.
He dominated in the javelin throw, launching a meet-best 61.33 meters, and also captured first place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.40 seconds.
The sophomore’s top-five overall finish came against a national field, adding to UConn’s early momentum in the outdoor season.
Mooney’s results mark one of the top decathlon scores in the conference and continue a strong start to UConn’s multi-event campaign.
Mooney joins a growing list of Huskies making national impact early in the spring season, following UConn’s fourth straight BIG EAST Indoor Championship and recent All-America honors.
