Middletown, CT – A fire erupted early Saturday morning at a Middletown apartment complex, leaving approximately 20 residents displaced and one firefighter injured. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire as emergency response teams work to assist affected individuals.

The blaze broke out around 3:00 a.m. at the multi-unit complex on Main Street. Firefighters arrived swiftly, battling intense flames that spread rapidly through parts of the building. Crews worked for several hours to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

According to Middletown Fire Chief John Turner, one firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries while attempting to rescue residents. “Our team responded with urgency, ensuring that everyone was evacuated safely,” said Turner. “We are relieved there were no civilian injuries, but the damage is extensive.”

Displaced residents are receiving aid from the American Red Cross and other local agencies. Temporary shelter arrangements have been made, with some families being housed at nearby hotels. Volunteers and community organizations have mobilized to provide essentials such as food, clothing, and financial assistance.

Investigators are currently assessing the structural integrity of the building while determining the fire’s origin. Initial reports suggest that the fire may have started in a lower-level apartment, but officials have not confirmed any specific cause.

Local authorities urge residents to remain vigilant about fire safety, especially during the winter months when heating equipment usage is high. “We encourage everyone to check smoke detectors, practice escape plans, and be mindful of space heaters and other heating sources,” said Fire Marshal Lisa Carter.

Community members who wish to support displaced residents can contribute to relief efforts through donation drives organized by local nonprofits.
